Revealed: The Eight Finalists for the World Agri-Tech 2018 Pitch Day and The Radicle Challenge $250,000

Over 150 international entries received; finalists from Canada, Israel, UK, USA.

Rethink Events, organizer of the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit (San Francisco, March 20-21, 2018) and Radicle Growth, a seed-stage agtech acceleration fund, have announced the names of the eight start-ups chosen to present at the Pitch Day prior to the summit on March 19. Radicle Growth is offering an unprecedented $250,000 investment funding to the Pitch Day winner.
Commenting on the entries, Kirk Haney, CEO of Radicle Growth said: “We are incredibly impressed by the overwhelming response to the World Agri-Tech Pitch Day and Radicle Challenge, which attracted more than 150 entries from around the world. The quality of entrepreneurs and breadth of novel ideas impacting the agtech value chain have been second to none. It has been tough to narrow the 150 entries to our top 8 finalists, and we are delighted that 50% of these are international. We’re excited to see the finalists present and to help catapult them onto the international ag stage with the help of our $250,000 investment to the winner.”
The eight finalists are named as: BeeHero (Israel), eggXYt (Israel), HerdDogg Inc. (USA), RootWave (UK), Sollum (Canada), Tortuga AgTech (USA), TradeLanes (USA) and Vence Corp (USA).
BeeHero’s mission is to improve nature’s pollination by saving and empowering bees, the single most important pollinator of nature. BeeHero’s technology allows commercial beekeepers to keep their colonies stronger and farmers to increase their yields by at least 15%.
eggXYt is a small startup company aiming to solve the male chicks culling problem, by identifying the sex of the egg immediately after it is laid, avoiding  the 21 day incubation and destruction of 7 billion male chicks per year.
HerdDogg is an remote animal health monitoring and data science company, whose proprietary smart tags transmit individual animal biometrics and behavior to the cloud in real time. This disruptive low-cost, easy-to-use solution for precision livestock management helps improve farm efficiency, sustainability and save producers money.
RootWave is pioneering the use of electricity to kill weeds to offer a sustainable and scalable alternative to herbicides, replacing mechanical and chemical methods to automatically see, select and kill weeds within cereal, vegetable and fruit crops.
Sollum transforms agriculture lighting by creating optimal growing conditions that increase yield and improve efficiency for greenhouses and breeding farms.
Tortuga’s mission is to build a healthier society, and a thriving ecosystem, through smarter farming. Its Robotics-as-a-Service systems will save fresh produce farmers 20% on costs and double their profitability.
TradeLanes is a digital trade room that automatically generates global trade documents for physical commodities. The platform creates a single source of truth for every shipment, enabling seamless handoffs of all trade documents with greater efficiency, accuracy and cost-savings.
Vence Corp is reinventing livestock management, using IoT and AI to remove fences and labor from farms while adding health detection and real-time monitoring.
Each finalist will have 15 minutes to pitch their company to a room full of investors and agribusiness experts on March 19.  Following deliberations by Radicle Growth and its panel of industry and investor experts, the winner will be announced on stage on Day 1 of the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit (March 20). The winning company will take the spotlight again on March 21, presenting as part of the start-up Technology Showcase.
