Johannes Daniёl (J.D.) Rossouw

SVP & Global Plant Breeding Lead , BAYER CROP SCIENCE

J.D. Rossouw is Senior Vice President and serves as a member of the Research and Development (R&D) Leadership Team and as Global Plant Breeding Lead for the Crop Science division of Bayer based in St. Louis.

Since joining the company in 1998 as an assistant maize breeder, J.D. has held various roles with increasing responsibility in breeding across South Africa, Singapore, and the USA. He has had the opportunity to lead teams focused on plant breeding efforts across 28 crops, delivering products and solutions to farmers and growers of various sizes around the world.  

His focus on solving challenges and improving the productivity of farmers worldwide reflects his journey from growing up on a livestock and vegetable seed production farm in South Africa to becoming a leader in plant breeding sciences. 

J.D. has a strong track record of enabling transformation and driving functional change and is also known for developing a diverse and talented organization. He has continued his passion for progressing global agriculture and has proudly served as President for the Southern Africa Plant Breeders’ Association (SAPBA), as Plant Biotech and Seeds Strategy Board Member for Crop Life Asia and most recently as President of the National Association of Plant Breeding (NAPB).

J.D. received a Ph.D. Plant Science in Plant Breeding & Plant Pathology from University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
