Roberto Garza
Roberto Garza is a third generation farmer running a family-owned potato farm in northern Mexico. It grows potatoes for industrial use (chips) and fresh markets on drip-irrigated fields of about 300 hectares per cycle. (~750 acres)
The farm uses a combination of tools: drone imagery, NDVI and MCARI vegetation indexes, soil conductivity mapping, sap analysis, smart irrigation valves, and GPS-guided pesticide applications.
Roberto adopted these technologies because of the need to know his fields like never before and precision in a challenging environment. With less predictable weather and increasing production costs, he realized that working smarter—not just harder—was the only way to stay competitive.
