As AI and autonomous systems advance, the agriculture industry faces a critical question: What does progress look like in the agentic age? This inaugural benchmarking workshop will lay the groundwork for an industry-wide roadmap or living reference, helping define adoption milestones, success metrics, and evaluation frameworks.

    Objectives
Through collaborative discussion and expert moderation, participants will map agriculture’s AI and GenAI adoption trajectory. Taking inspiration from other industries such as semiconductors who defined an industry-wide roadmap with multi-year targets, measurable specs, and annual checkpoints in 1992 to speed up innovation cycles, bring down costs, and improve global competitiveness - we’ll explore what an agri-tech industry consortium could achieve and mock up ideas for benchmarking priorities. The goal is to create a shared vision for progress and identify the enablers that will accelerate transformation.

Segment 1: AI Benchmarking Priorities and Goals

    • What is benchmarking, and what is not?
    • How have other industries used benchmarking, and what impacts have emerged?
    • How does the agtech cycle compare to other industries, and what is a feasible timeline and trajectory?

Segment 2: AI Advisory and Benchmarking

    • Which benchmarking priorities and goals should be considered?
    • What should success metrics look like?
    • What roles can academia, industry groups, businesses, and non-profits play?

Segment 3: Data and Tools for Benchmarking

    • How can agribusinesses and governments support the development and integration of data and tools for benchmarking?
    • What competitive barriers exist, and how can industry stakeholders contribute in a secure way?
    • What key benchmarking lessons can we draw from smallholder farming projects?

    Output
The workshop will deliver a summary report capturing insights from group discussions. This report will include a snapshot of the current state of AI adoption in agriculture and proposed milestones for progress. It will suggest next steps and recommendations for establishing an industry-wide roadmap or living reference in the future.
