As AI and autonomous systems advance, the agriculture industry faces a critical question: What does progress look like in the agentic age? This inaugural benchmarking workshop will lay the groundwork for an industry-wide roadmap, helping define adoption milestones, success metrics, and evaluation frameworks.
Objectives
Through collaborative discussion and expert moderation, participants will map agriculture’s AI and GenAI adoption trajectory. Taking inspiration from other industries such as semiconductors who defined an industry-wide roadmap with multi-year targets, measurable specs, and annual checkpoints in 1992 to speed up innovation cycles, bring down costs, and improve global competitiveness - we’ll explore what an agri-tech industry consortium could achieve and mock up ideas for benchmarking priorities. The goal is to create a shared vision for progress and identify the enablers that will accelerate transformation.
Format
- Three consecutive breakout segments, each focused on a key question (90min).
- Discussion groups present their takeaways after each segment (30min).
- A moderated discussion drawing conclusions and shaping next steps (30min).
Segment 1: Where Are We Today?
- What does the adoption of AI and GenAI technologies look like in agriculture, and how does it compare to other sectors?
- Which categories show the most traction, and what are their timelines for impact and ROI?
Segment 2: What Does Success Look Like?
- What milestones should the industry aim for in 1, 3, and 5 years, and which categories should be prioritized for benchmarking?
- What does benchmarking mean in the context of agricultural innovation, and which metrics matter most?
Segment 3: What’s Needed to Get There?
- What technical, cultural, and regulatory risks and opportunities must be addressed?
- What key pillars or principles should guide an industry-wide roadmap?
Output
The workshop will deliver a summary report capturing insights from group discussions. This report will include a snapshot of the current state of AI adoption in agriculture and proposed milestones for progress. It will suggest next steps and recommendations for establishing an industry-wide roadmap.
